What
YOU can do to Bring America Home:
- Call your Representative and ask him/her to sign on as an
original co-sponsor of the Bringing America Home Act!
1) Call the congressional switchboard at 202-225-3121 and
ask to be connected to your representative's office. (If you don't
know who your representative is, you can find out at www.house.gov;
you can find their contact info at the bottom of this page)
2) Ask to speak to your representative's housing staffer (or ask
to be connected to his or her phone mail).
3) Say the following or something along the lines of: "Hi,
my name is _____. I am a constituent and I am calling to urge
Representative ______ to sign on as a cosponsor of the Bringing
America Home Act (H.R. 4347), the most far-reaching initiative
to date to address modern homelessness. Please contact Michael
Wallace in the office of Julia Carson at 202-225-4011 to become
a co-sponsor. Thank you."
- Write your Representative and ask him or her to support the
Act! (A sample letter is available at www.bringingamericahome.org/letter.html)
- Follow up any letters and calls to the Representative or his
or her aide and ask whether a decision has been made to support
the bill. Reiterate your or your organization's support!
- Report the results of your calls and letters to Michael Stoops
at 202.462.4822, mstoops@nationalhomeless.org.
- Write a Letter to the Editor for your local paper. For a sample
letter, go to www.bringingamericahome.org/oped.html.
- Email or call us to let us know you're interested in Bringing
America Home! Call Michael Stoops at 202.462.4822.
- Contact your local homeless coalition to find out how you can
get involved (a list of local coalitions are available at www.nationalhomeless.org/resources/state).
